metric mania

All right. I can convert from fahrenheit to celcius in my head, as long as I have 20 seconds to do it, and going back and forth from miles to kilometers is no problem. I can almost think in kilometers now, like how fast is fast in kilometers, whether you're driving, biking, or running.
But. Today I was trying to figure out how tall someone who's 183 centimeters tall is in inches. And I kept coming up with way too tall. Then I tried it on myself to test my equation- and it didn't come out right. I was off by about 6 inches. I went back and forth with easy numbers, I made sure I was multiplying feet to inches right, I eventually broke down and used a calculator. All this went on during my last class, and my run, and my swim class. It got to the point where I wondered if I was going insane because the numbers just didn't work out.
Then I finally got home and got on the internet and, what do you know, there are 2.54 cm to an inch, not 2.2.
And just typing that, I realized 2.2 is the kilograms to pounds conversion.
Who ever invented metric, anyways? :)
