I subbed a glass of 2nd-graders at the kindy- these are kids who went through bilingual kindy. For homework they had to write a paragraph about what they're scared of- one kid wrote about cockroaches. "My kitchen has so many cockroaches! Every day, I eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they always visit me. But I do not like them."

A lot of kids wrote about earthquakes, unsurprisingly. One wrote the characters for Sichuan province in China where they big earthquake was. Another wrote about the big earthquake here years ago- how his family ran outside their house, "And I didn't know what to do, so I just cried and cried."
