run commute

It seems like everyone and their brother is riding their bike to work this year. So me riding my bike isn't so special anymore. Then I realized it's a little under 7 miles to work, and I can never seem to find time for long runs...

So I came up with a slightly complicated scheme that require packing lots of clothes: drive my scooter to work, run home, bike to work tomorrow, run to work Wednesday, drive my scooter home.

It wasn't too bad tonight. It's not the most pleasant run on earth but not too bad. The down side is I have to ride my bike tomorrow, whether I want to or not, and I pretty much have to run to work Wed, whether I want to or not. We'll see if this was a good idea!

Just typed in 'Run Commute' to see what would show up and found your blog. I run or cycle to work everyday here in Austin, TX. It's only about 4 miles each way. At work I keep a bag with soap, deoderant, toothbrush etc. I carry a small towel and work clothes in panniers if I ride it, or a backpack if I run it.
My running pack is a Salomon Raid 30 and is the type of pack used in adventure races. It holds a water bladder.
Some days, I leave at 5:30 am and run trails so it adds up to about 8 miles to work. I even carry my lunch and some other small items. Using a pack is a great idea. I hardly notice it. You might try it and get in two 14 mile days, say on Tues and Thurs, then alternate with cycling. You would be good to go for any duathlons in your area! Throw in some swimming on the weekend, and you could do a triathlon anyday.
